AFRICAN POSTAL SECTOR GOES DIGITAL
Postal sectors of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) member countries are determined to provide digital services in line with the ongoing global technological advancements, while also being required to deliver appropriate and faster services to meet the needs of African citizens.
This was revealed yesterday, June 10, 2024, at the PAPU Conference Hall in Arusha, during the Leaders Forum of Postal Directors and Communications Regulatory Institutions aimed at discussing and planning the development of the postal sector in Africa.
During the forum, various topics were discussed, including the implementation of various digital strategies to restore postal services post-COVID-19, as well as the management and regulation of financial services provided by all postal services within the union.
They also discussed the costs of postal services alongside the sharing of ideas and best practices to enhance postal services, key aspects of postal financial services including cybersecurity, infrastructure, supply chains, collaborative partnerships, and robust programs.
Additionally, Tanzania had the opportunity to be one of the presenters during the forum, where Mr. Maharage Chande, Postmaster General of the Tanzania Postal Corporation, emphasized the importance of collaboration among African postal services and called for leveraging technological advancements as an opportunity to enhance postal services in Africa.
Furthermore, Mr. Maharage urged PAPU member countries not to isolate themselves but rather to collaborate in exchanging experiences, as Tanzania Post is currently doing by partnering with African postal services to enhance e-commerce, with Tanzania Post owning an online store that provides services to citizens and businesses.
It should be noted that Tanzania is hosting the 42nd meeting of the PAPU Administrative Council from June 3-14, 2024, in Arusha, where the PAPU headquarters are located. The meeting is attended by experts and various delegates from PAPU member countries, as well as stakeholders in the postal sector from across Africa and the Universal Postal Union.
