African postal institutions have been urged to increase innovation and efficiency in their service delivery to keep pace with technological advancements and ensure that the services provided reflect the current needs of the public.

This was highlighted by the Deputy Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Hon. Eng. Maryprisca Winfrend Mahundi, during the opening of the Meeting of the Administrative Council of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) today, June 11, 2024, at the PAPU Headquarters in Arusha.

In her opening remarks, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the postal sectors in Africa should enhance innovation and focus more on providing digital services, particularly E-Commerce, to simplify services and reduce inconvenience for citizens when they need services.

Furthermore, Hon. Eng. Maryprisca Mahundi used the occasion to commend the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) for organizing these meetings aimed at discussing the development of the postal sector in Africa, stating that the Government of Tanzania will continue to support postal activities so that citizens can benefit from these services.

On his part, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Nicholaus Merinyo Mkapa, stressed that the ongoing PAPU meetings should bring about tangible benefits for the development of the postal sectors in Africa, as there would be no reason to come together if planning together did not yield results.

The Secretary General of the Pan African Postal Union, Dr. Sifundo Chief Moyo, expressed gratitude to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania under the leadership of President Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for facilitating the construction of the headquarters building, where for the first time PAPU is holding its meetings at its headquarters building in Arusha.
