TPC, AZAMPESA: DIGITAL PAYMENTS
Deputy Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology Hon. Engineer Maryprisca Mahundi has urged the Tanzania Posts Corporation and AzamPesa to ensure they deliver a modern financial payment solution that will enable citizens to pay for various social services via their mobile phones.
She made these remarks today, July 17, 2024, on behalf of the Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology Hon. Nape Nnauye during the launch of a business partnership between the Tanzania Posts Corporation and AzamPesa in Dar es Salaam.
During the launch, Engineer Mahundi stated that this partnership will enhance access to financial services for more citizens, particularly those living in rural areas where such services are not easily available, while also providing over 300 postal offices across the country the capacity to offer AzamPesa's financial services.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister took this opportunity to commend the Postal Corporation and AzamPesa for this innovative effort that will impact many economic and social areas, as every citizen will have easier access to financial services. She assured that the government will continue to improve policy, legal, and institutional frameworks to ensure that technology-enabled services, such as financial services, benefit the nation.
On his part, the Postmaster General Mr. Maharage Chande expressed that this partnership is part of the corporation’s strategies, which include six baskets under the new strategic plan, particularly focusing on Business Growth.
These baskets include People, Customer Experience, Operational Excellence, Business Growth, Technology & Innovation, and Brand & Marketing, while he promised to deliver services that meet the citizens' needs.
Additionally, the Director of Public Relations of Bakhresa Group of Companies Mr. Hussein Sufiani thanked the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for supporting private sector efforts to ensure that services are brought closer to the citizens.
The AzamPesa service allows citizens to send and receive money without any charges, with TPC as the main aggregator providing this service through its more than 300 offices across Tanzania.
