MBODO ATTENDS UPU DRM WORKSHOP OPENING
Postmaster General (PMG) of the Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC), Mr. Macrice Mbodo, attends the official opening of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Disaster Risk Management (DRM) workshop which is being held at PAPU headquarters in Arusha today 25th November , 2024.
The workshop that will take 3 days from 25th to 27th November, 2024 takes on board experts from Africa region with representation from 45 countries. This is as part of the UPU’s technical assistance programme through Development Cooperation Directorate.
In his opening speech, Mr. Mbodo highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and resilience, drawing on Tanzania’s experience, including the response to the December 2023 Hanang landslide. He highlighted how DRM frameworks and collaboration with the government and UPU have enhanced resilience.
Additionally, Mr. Mbodo urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop at personal, corporate and national levels, ensuring stronger disaster management systems across the region.
He also commended the UPU and PAPU for its continued support through initiatives like training and capacity building. He also welcomed the attendees to enjoy the natural beauty and warm hospitality of Arusha.
