DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT(DRM) WORKSHOP
On the second day of the Disaster Risk Management workshop, Mr. David Andrea ( Head of Risk and Quality ) representing Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC), delivered a practical presentation on how TPC is preparing for and responding to disasters.
He presented Tanzania’s experience in frequent exposure to floods, highlighting the devastating December 2023 Hanang landslide, which disrupted lives and damaged infrastructures particularly the destruction on the Hanang Postal Office. This event indicated the urgent need for better disaster preparedness.
Mr. Andrea shared how TPC has since focused on strengthening infrastructure, training staff and implementing a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to ensures that operations can resume quickly after a disaster.
In his conclusion, Mr. Andrea acknowledged the support of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Improving TPC’s resilience through capacity building and technology integration. He also emphasized the importance of teamwork, preparation and resilience across the postal network.
