Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) aimed at preventing drug trafficking through the Corporation's cargo transportation systems. The agreement was signed today at DCEA's offices in Dar es Salaam, in the presence of senior leaders from both parties.

The Postmaster General of Tanzania Posts Corporation, Mr. Macrice Mbodo, emphasized that this agreement is a significant step in enhancing the security of postal services and ensuring that the Corporation remains a safe means for transporting goods for Tanzanians. "Through this collaboration, we are strengthening our security systems by using modern machines to detect drugs and appointing a dedicated officer to closely monitor cargo inspections," Mr. Mbodo stated.

On his part, the Commissioner General of DCEA, Mr. Aretas Lyimo, commended this move by Tanzania Posts Corporation and stressed that the partnership would support the government's efforts to combat the illegal drug trade, which has had a severe impact on both society and the country's economy. He said, "This partnership marks a new beginning in strengthening regulatory systems to ensure that all parcels entering and leaving the country are thoroughly inspected to prevent any trafficking of drugs."

The agreement includes the exchange of security-related information, training for personnel from both sides, and the use of advanced equipment in cargo inspection. The leaders of both institutions have expressed their commitment to working together to tackle crime and safeguard national security.

Tanzania Posts Corporation has pledged to collaborate closely with DCEA to implement the agreement's provisions, improve service delivery in line with international standards, and maintain its trustworthiness as a postal service provider.
